Roadmapping Workshop on Measurement Science for Metal-Based Additive Manufacturing White Papers

White papers were requested in advance to address the following two questions. Participation in the workshop was not a requirement for submitting a white paper.

The papers were used to help shape the workshop discussion and will be posted on the workshop website and appended to the workshop report. Your submission will indicate your consent for these uses. We ask that you address the following questions (in 2 pages maximum):

  1. What are the key measurement science barriers that prevent innovation in metal-based AM?
  2. What are the most important areas where R&D is needed—particularly in measurement and standards—to overcome these barriers and to accelerate innovation in metal-based AM?
For reference and background, please review the definition of measurement science and NIST's role in measurement science.
