Interpretations of the meaning of a portion of the IEEE-1588 standard: 

Questions concerning the meaning of a portion of the standard can only be resolved by procedures established by the IEEE. Interpretations are issued to explain and clarify the intent of the standard and are not intended to constitute an alteration to the original standard or to supply consulting information. Any changes to the standard are made only through revisions or supplements to the standard. See the IEEE Standards Interpretations page on the IEEE Standards Association web site for the details on submitting requests for interpretation.

 IEEE-1588 interpretations can only be issued after a vote of an IEEE designated committee. These interpretations are available from the IEEE Standards Association.
