The Office of Weights and Measures (OWM) Laboratory Metrology Program operates an ISO/IEC 17043 compliant Proficiency Testing (PT) services that assesses the effectiveness of the metrology training efforts for the state laboratory participants and the traceability of the state metrology laboratories to the SI through NIST’s measurement services. Participants of the PT program include federal and commercial laboratories across the U.S., in addition to state legal metrology laboratories.
OWM acknowledges the hard work of the many regional technical experts of the PT program. In 2025, OWM showed gratitude to the PT Coordinators and PT Analysts during the annual Regional Measurement Assurance Program (RMAP) meetings from March 2025 to September 2025. The role of the PT Coordinator is highly important, as the metrologist is responsible for planning, guiding, and coordinating a group of fellow metrologists to facilitate the movement of proficiency test artifacts across a region. In addition, the PT Coordinator keeps a record of any obstacles or challenges that may be faced during the PT such as damage to an artifact during shipping or while at a participant’s laboratory. The PT Analyst, another critical role of the PT Program, gathers resulting calibration certificates for statistical review and reporting, and provides participating laboratories with preliminary feedback. The PT Coordinator and PT Analyst also provide informal mentorship and guidance to proficiency testing participants by ensuring that all follow the agreed-upon PT plan of requirements and process. OWM is grateful for their assistance in kind to the program, as the PT services would not be a success without their cooperation and dedication.
At the RMAP meetings, OWM was able to provide Certificates of Appreciation to the 2025 PT coordinators and analysts, as they played a critical role in completing 20 PTs across the country, with 18 completed and reported on during the RMAP meetings. The PTs consisted of various mass and volume echelons. There was a total of 9,180 intercomparison points with a success rate of 94.7 %.
We are most appreciative and proud of the PT coordinators and analysts listed by the RMAP region for the meeting schedule. Congratulations on your achievement!
