NIST Voting Technology Subseries Descriptions

NIST Voting Technology Series consists of guidelines, recommendations, research reports, specifications, training and awareness documents and white papers related to the design, operations and use of voting technology.  Key areas include cybersecurity, privacy, usability, accessibility and software engineering and development.   

Within this Series are Subseries for specific groups and document types.  All documents are publicly available. The Series is open-ended.  Only output produced in the NIST Voting Program is available for this series.

VTS 100: Reports

This subseries consists of voting technology reports of research results and analysis; workshop reports; literature reviews; and any other materials including final or interim results. 

VTS 200: Guidelines and Recommendations

This subseries consists of voting technology guidelines and best practices to help election officials address voting technology topical issues that include cybersecurity, accessibility, and usability.

VTS 300: Specifications

This subseries consists of specific methods to implement in voting technology to support interoperability of technology and portability of data.

VTS 400: Testing Material

This subseries consists of test assertions and test methods that helps voting technology manufacturers correctly implement guidelines, specifications, and recommendations. 

VTS 500: Software Documentation

This subseries consists of documentation related to software produced for public availability.
