Standards for Pathogen Detection for Biosurveillance and Clinical Applications Workshop

The purpose of this workshop is to present state-of-the-art pathogen detection technologies, primarily related to sequencing, emphasizing the need for standards relevant to the clinical diagnostic and biothreat detection stakeholder communities. Speakers will include subject matter experts from industry, academia, and government.

Based on discussions during the 2015 NIST-FDA workshop, a prototype NIST Reference Material consisting of gDNA from multiple pathogens was developed in collaboration with the FDA; preliminary characterization data will be presented.  Additionally, we will present a whole-cell candidate reference material for threat detection field training developed at NIST in collaboration with DHS. The agenda will include time for specific feedback on how these materials can be implemented and expanded within the clinical, environmental, biomanufacturing, and biosurveillance communities.
