Library and information science is a field of study that encompasses all of the aspects of the creation, organization, documentation, management, communication, and use of recorded information. It is the umbrella term for a wide variety of fields of study and work, including librarianship, information management, knowledge management, archiving, and records management, and is tangential to museum studies. While library science and information science are two separate disciplines, they are interrelated and are often used synonymously.
