VVSG 1.1, Vol 1, Requirement 7.8.1: Display and Print a Paper Record

  1. VVPAT voting systems shall provide capabilities for the voter to review a paper record of ballot selections and a summary of the voter’s electronic ballot selections prior to casting a ballot.
  2. VVPAT voting systems shall create a paper record that election officials can use to reconstruct the full set of totals from the election.
  3. Each paper record shall contain a human-readable summary of the electronic ballot image record. In addition, all paper records shall contain audit-related information including:
    1. Machine ID;
    2. Reporting context, such as precinct or election district;
    3. Ballot style;
    4. Date of election or date record printed; and
    5. Complete summary of voter’s choices.

 

Test Assertions

TA781a-1: VVPAT voting systems SHALL provide capabilities for the voter to review a paper record of ballot selections.

TA781a-1-1: One capability for the voter to review a paper record MAY be printing the paper record for review by the voter.

TA781a-2: VVPAT voting systems SHALL provide capabilities for the voter to review a summary of the voter’s electronic ballot selections.

TA781a-2-1: One capability for the voter to review a paper record MAY be printing the summary of the voter’s electronic ballot selections.

TA781a-3: The capabilities for review, described above, SHALL allow this review to take place prior to casting a ballot.

TA781b-1: VVPAT voting systems SHALL create a paper record of the voter ballot selections.

TA781b-1-1: The paper record SHALL be capable of being used, by election officials, to reconstruct the full set of totals from the election.

TA781c-1: Each paper record SHALL contain a human-readable summary of the electronic ballot image record.

TA781c-2: All paper records SHALL contain audit-related information including, but not limited to:

  1. Machine ID;
  2. Reporting context, such as precinct or election district;
  3. Ballot style;
  4. Date of election or date record printed; and
  5. Complete summary of voter’s choices.
