FISSEA Frequently Asked Questions

The name originally was an abbreviation for Federal Information Systems Security Educators Association but has now been shortened to Federal Information Security Educators (FISSEA).

Any Federal government information security awareness and training professional is welcome to join.

The FISSEA Call for Speakers is open year-round. View submission guidelines, topics of interests, and submit a proposal online. Keep an eye out for “priority deadlines” to be considered for the next FISSEA event.

Email us at FISSEA [at] nist.gov (FISSEA[at]nist[dot]gov) to express your interest in joining the Planning Committee. Interested participants will be invited to a Planning Committee meeting to introduce themselves to the group and observe the meeting to understand Planning Committee expectations. If the interested participant is qualified, is interested and there are no objections from the existing members, they will be added to the Planning Committee.

FISSEA will offer a downloadable form that is a voluntary, self-attestation of attendance and does not guarantee CEUs. It is up to the certifying body to approve the CEUs. However, previous attendees have used their attendance and form to qualify for CEUs for industry credentials such as CISSP and CEH.

Federal government and other cybersecurity professionals who are actively seeking ways to help educate information security professionals to assist them in strengthening their cybersecurity awareness and training programs.

Please email the FISSEA Planning Committee via fissea [at] nist.gov (fissea[at]nist[dot]gov) if you are interested in becoming a member of the FISSEA Program Committee.  You do not need to serve as a member prior to serving on the Committee.

Upon receiving a requesting to join, the NICE Program Office and FISSEA Co-chairs will review the application and respond in a timely fashion to the applicant.

We ask that you serve for at least 2 years.
