The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) issues an annual Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for SBIR Phase I proposals. Science and technology-based firms with strong research capabilities in any of the areas listed in the NOFO are encouraged to participate. Phase II awards are limited to small businesses that have successfully completed Phase I projects. Please see Resources for more information on specifics of the program.
ATTENTION: Congressional authorization of the SBIR and STTR programs expires on September 30, 2022. If the SBIR program is not reauthorized prior to expiration, the planning, solicitation, and release of new NIST SBIR awards for the fiscal year (FY) 2023, beginning October 1, 2022, may be impacted. Existing NIST SBIR grantees with awards issued prior to October 1, 2022 should not be affected as NIST will continue to administer its existing SBIR awards in accordance with the terms and conditions of those awards. Updates will continue to be posted on this website. Questions regarding this notice may be directed to Jacqueline Gray, NIST SBIR Program Manager, at jacqueline.gray [at] nist.gov.
