Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR)

The NIST SBIR Program Office is pleased to announce that the SBIR and STTR Programs have been reauthorized by Congress. We are in the process of updating this page to reflect the changes and improvements to the NIST SBIR Program as a result of the reauthorization. We thank you for your patience during this transition. Meanwhile, please send any inquiries to sbir [at] nist.gov (sbir[at]nist[dot]gov).

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) issues an annual Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for SBIR Phase I proposals. Science and technology-based firms with strong research capabilities in any of the areas listed in the NOFO are encouraged to participate. Phase II awards are limited to small businesses that have successfully completed Phase I projects. Please see Resources for more information on the specifics of the program.

SBIR Bulletin Board

The NIST SBIR FY2025 Phase II Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) No. 2025-NIST-SBIR-02, which was posted on grants.gov, is now closed. Please check back to this site periodically for updates on when the next SBIR NOFO will be released.
