Abstract

This paper describes the construction of an automotive assembly line simulation where manufacturing data is defined using the Core Manufacturing Simulation Data (CMSD) information model. This work is part of the Virtual Manufacturing Environment (VME) project underway at NIST. The production line simulated can produce multiple car configurations that are defined according to the door type, roof type and color. Although CMSD can handle large variety of data, the data defined in the demonstration model are resource, process and graphics display data. In addition to being data driven, the simulation model can also exchange product and inventory data with other simulation systems. The results of the prototype demonstration are good prove that, with improvements, CMSD can handle production line type of manufacturing systems data.
