Both the standard deviation and the standard deviation of the mean might be used for reporting the statistical variation in the surface calibration reports. In practice, however, if the calibration laboratories or standard agencies could not provide sufficient information in their calibration reports or standard documents, or the customer might not use this information correctly, the calibration uncertainty might be either over- or under-estimated. Some examples are discussed, suggestions are provided on how to report the statistical variation in standard documents and calibration reports, and how to convert uncertainty values when necessary.
