Abstract
This report describes the role of international standards, their importance in world trade, and the extent of U.S.participation in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) over the 32 year period from 1966 to 1998. To the extent possible, a comparison of U.S. exports with U.S. participation in the ISO and IEC is provided. Mention is also made of the World Trade Organization's Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade.Citation
