Abstract

The NIST Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory undertook a series of internal working meetings to examine all of its architecture efforts.  A survey of work was performed, and recommendations were identified.  This document, initially compiled in 1999, captures the efforts and recommendations of that multi-divisional working group, known as the MEL Architecture Task Force.  This activity was requested by the Laboratory Director and was intended to be completed in a relatively short time.  It resulted in this report to the Director.  Much of this information is rough in form, such as the presentations captured in the appendix.  This information is best viewed as simply a record of the activity, much like a compilation of workshop notes or minutes, and is not meant to be a formal scientific report.  It continues, however, to serve as a useful internal reference document.
