Abstract

Introduction: During the Metabolomics 2023 conference, the Metabolomics Quality Assurance and Quality Control Consortium (mQACC) presented a workshop focusing on key quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) topic categories for LC-MS-based untargeted metabolomics. This is the second workshop in a series presented at consecutive Metabolomics Society conferences. Objectives: The mQACC Best Practices Working Group aimed to disseminate recent findings from forums examining four key QA/QC areas with respect to untargeted LC-MS-based metabolomics and discuss which aspects to include in a living guidance document. Methods: Presentations of four topics, focusing on reference materials, data quality review, metabolite identification/annotation and QA were given. Live polling and a short discussion occurred immediately following each presentation. A discussion regarding the living guidance document concluded the session. Results: Enthusiastic participation in polls and follow-up discussions provided additional data that offered a broad international perspective on QA/QC practices. Conclusions: Community input gathered from this workshop series is being used to shape the living guidance document, which aims to be a continually evolving QA/QC best practices resource for metabolomics researchers.
