IREX I: Performance of Iris Recognition Algorithms on Standard Images

The IREX program supports the development of interoperable iris imagery for use in high performance biometric applications. The IREX evaluation, was conducted in cooperation with the iris recognition industry to demonstrate that standardized image formats can be interoperable and compact. This is required for federated applications in which iris data is exchanged between interoperating systems, passed across bandwidth-limited networks, or stored on identity credentials. The IREX I study was initiated to give quantitative support to the revision of the ISO/IEC 19794-6 and ANSI/NIST TYPE 17 standards, and to form a multi-provider marketplace around those standards.
