Abstract
In this paper, a decision guidance framework has been presented to provide decision support to industry users in manufacturing processes. The framework consists of six phases: goal and scope definition, data collection, model generation, sustainability performance analysis, interpretation, and decision support and guidance phases. Following the six phases, recommendations for improving sustainability in manufacturing processes are provided. To demonstrate effectiveness of the proposed framework, a case study of a turning process has been performed. Common sustainability issues, such as energy consumption and air emission, are considered for sustainability analysis. Eco-indicator 99 is used to estimate the sustainability single score from what-if (e.g., assessment) and optimization analyses. With this case study, it is demonstrated that the proposed framework can provide decision support and guidance to manufacturers with optimal manufacturing parameters. This paper also discusses and evaluates the feasibility of the proposed framework in terms of functionality, usability, flexibility/reusability, and interoperability.
