Abstract

On June 14, 2000, the New Jersey Center for Biomaterials and the Polymers Division of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) co-sponsored a one-day workshop on Critical Issues in the Characterization of Polymers for Medical Applications. The workshop; defined some of the critical issues in the design and characterization of polymers for medical applications and highlighted the expertise and technologies available at both NIST and the New Jersey Center for Biomaterials for developing polymers for medical applications. The meeting was broken into sections covering design and synthesis, new imaging techniques, and state-of-the-art research in biomaterials. There was also a facilitated discussion on the critical issues in the characterization of polymers for medical applications as well as a general poster session.
