Summary

Toxicology represents the newest focus area for our group.  The goal of this work is to compliment traditional toxicological research with development of measuring tools and platforms necessary for rapid screening of toxicological samples.  This is being done by leveraging existing expertise in ambient ionization mass spectrometry.

Development of Low-Volume Drop Blood Drug Screening Tools
This project aims to leverage recent NIST advances in ambient ionization mass spectrometry to develop platforms for low-volume blood drug screening. Direct Analysis in Real Time Mass Spectrometry (DART-MS) and Paper Spray Ionization Mass Spectrometry (PSI-MS) are two such measurement techniques being applied for improvement of targeted and non-targeted drug screening. These MS platforms can significantly reduce analysis times while providing detailed information to guide confirmatory and quantitative analysis workflows.
