Karen's research involves the use of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) for the accurate analysis of inorganic elements in nanomaterials, clinical and environmental samples. Her research focuses on the application of single particle ICP-MS and isotope dilution analysis including the development of high accuracy sample preparation procedures utilizing chemical separations. She has been involved in the certification of over 85 Standard Reference Materials and participated in 15 CCQM Key and Pilot international inter-comparison exercises. She has authored or co-authored more than 35 peer-reviewed publications describing these activities.
