Fabio’s research focus is the application of untargeted Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR)-based metabolomic approaches to the study of complex biological matrices using metabolomics measurements. Fabio is participating in the development of reference materials (RMs) for multi-platform/multi-omics metabolomic workflows which aim to provide the metabolomics community with more economical QC materials with qualitative characterization of metabolite profiles for measurement comparison, benchmarking, and harmonization. The development of unified multi-platform QA/QC tools that include associated reference data was prompted by an urgent need in the community to increase measurement reproducibility while also improving transparency in scientific data reporting.
Fabio's additional interests include the investigation of quantitative NMR (q-NMR) applications in the context of SI-traceable fluorinated substance measurements (i.e., PFAS), and the development of an NMR-based metabolomic library/database.
