Dr. Ashley Beasley Green (Fed)

Dr. Ashley Beasley Green is a Bioanalytical Chemist within the Biomolecular Measurement Division of the Material Measurement Laboratory. Dr. Green received a B.S. degree in Biochemistry from Spelman College (2004) and a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Pharmacology and Molecular Sciences from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (2009).  Dr. Green joined NIST in 2009 as a NIST National Research Council (NRC) Postdoctoral Fellow.

Dr. Green’s research focuses on the development of methods and standards to improve the quality and confidence of biomedical research and clinical measurements. The research provides the foundational components of a framework that links fundamental units of measure to clinical test results, thereby improving physicians’ ability to provide effective healthcare for disease diagnosis and management. She is an expert in qualitative and quantitative characterization of proteins and peptides using triple quadrupole, MALDI, and Orbitrap mass spectrometers.  Dr Green is a member of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC) Working Group for the Standardization of Albumin Assays in Urine (WG-SAU) and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) Laboratory Working Group (LWG).  She has also served on committees and working groups for the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI).

Currently, Dr. Green is the Project Lead for the NIST Urine Albumin Standardization Program, which encompasses the development of a traceability framework that will underpin the accuracy and global comparability of urine albumin clinical measurements used in diagnosis and management of kidney disease.  Dr. Green is also a co-PI for the NIST Food Protein Allergen Program, which involves the development of measurement tools to support the management of food allergens by food manufacturers and regulatory agencies.
