The purpose of this document is to establish clear requirements, roles, and responsibilities to ensure the protection of NIST Gaithersburg employees and covered associates from the hazards associated with the use of ionizing radiation-producing machines (IRPMs). This framework outlines safety protocols, operational controls, and compliance measures that mitigate exposure risks and ensure safe handling, maintenance, and operation of IRPMs. By defining roles and responsibilities, this program promotes accountability and adherence to safety standards, supporting NIST’s commitment to a safe and secure working environment in alignment with federal regulations and best practices for radiation protection.
