Abstract
The NIST Manufacturing Systems Integration Division established the Engineering Design Technologies (EDT) Group to address the critical design needs of U.S. industry. The vision of the EDT group is to be a world leader in the development of technology and standards in support of mechanical/electromechanical design (product, process, and enterprise) environment needed for U.S industry to maintain preeminence in the global market place. To achieve the above vision our mission will be to : perform research and technology development leading to future standards for design; participate in various design related standards efforts; and establish an engineering design testbed for technology transfer. Various research and standard related activities for engineering design are discussed in this document.
