A Guide for Estimating and Reporting the Macroeconomic Impacts of MEP Centers

Abstract

MEP centers must often report on the impacts they have on their client firms. The main data source for these impacts is the Census Follow-up Survey, which interviews MEP client firms to see how their sales, employment, capital investment, and production costs have changed as a direct result of center services. Another impact MEP centers can report is the total impact on the state economy of these client-firm impacts. This report provides a guide for using the REMI model to estimate and report the state macroeconomic impact of center projects. It provides a set of criteria for assessing whether a center has sufficient projects to estimate state impacts, a step-by- step process for compiling client impacts and using REMI to estimate state impacts, a sample two- page report for submitting impact results to center stakeholders, and supporting information to strengthen the presentation of the results. This guide is intended for use by center directors, evaluation staff, and center strategic planners.
