Abstract

This report describes the results of the chemical contamination and decontamination of pipe materials found in residential building for the second phase of a research project to evaluate how contaminants accidentally or intentionally introduced into the water supply might accumulate in building plumbing systems, and how these contaminants might be removed should accumulation occur. The report discusses the progress to date. The extent of contamination and decontamination of the pipe materials was determined by examining the contaminated water and pipe materials, respectively after the steps of chemical contamination and decontamination. The results will then be used to establish adsorption isotherms for the chemical contaminant and the pipe materials.
