Abstract

This report identifies and examines the important issues associated with a measurement and modeling program intended to evaluate how contaminants accidentally or intentionally introduced into the water supply might accumulate in building plumbing systems, and the elimination of any contaminants should accumulation occur. Specifically, the report discusses the fundamental physical and chemical processes that might come into play, and the mechanisms of contaminant accumulation and removal. The intent of this report is to help guide the measurement and modeling research effort currently underway.
