Abstract

Instrumented indentation (nanoindentation) remains a leading technique for micro- and nanoscale mechanical characterization. Unlike other indenter geometries, spherical probes enable separation of elastic and plastic regimes and extraction of stress–strain curves which are essential in modelling and design tasks. Exploiting these advantages requires precise calibration and dedicated analysis tools, which are currently fragmented or unavailable. Here, we present SpherIndent, an open-source Python package with graphical user interface that provides an end-to-end workflow solution for multimodal analysis of quasi-static spherical nanoindentation. The software capabilities span from experiment calibration, through analysis, to data interpretation and visualization. The characteristics of SpherIndent are expected to empower indentation users in both academic and industrial settings.
