CM4QC Phase II

Phase I of Computational Materials for Qualification and Certification (CM4QC) culminated in the publishing of the CM4QC Strategy Document in March 2026. For additional outputs from CM4QC Steering Group, please see the CM4QC Outputs webpage

Phase II is focused on the implementation of the CM4QC Strategy Document. The previous Working Group structure is being replaced by the following multi-disciplinary Action Teams:

Pathfinder Exercise - A collaboration between CM4QC and the NIST-led Additive Manufacturing Benchmark Test Series (AM Bench)

Key Expectations:

  • Work with AM Bench to plan and execute additive manufacturing (AM) builds of realistic aviation components with extensive in situ and ex situ measurements and challenge problems for the AM community
  • Produce and curate extensive measurement datasets to guide and validate AM simulations with direct relevance to the U.S. aviation industry
  • Help the industry stakeholders to visualize the art-of-the-possible
  • Explore how elements of computational materials (CM) capabilities can be used for qualification and certification (Q&C)
  • Provide a litmus test for our breadth of relevance across the community
  • Develop a set of criteria for effective use of CM for Q&C

Co-chairs:

  • Lyle Levine (NIST)
  • Dave Furrer (P&W)

Action Team Members:

  • Scott Cockran (Lockheed Martin)
  • Ed Glaessgen (NASA)
  • Manish Kamal (P&W)
  • Harry Millwater (UTSA)
  • Alex Plotkowski (ORNL)
  • Narendran Raghavan (Boeing)
  • Tony Rollett (CMU)
  • Eddie Schwalbach (AFRL)
  • Saikumar Yeratapally (GE Aerospace)
