Eileen Moran (Fed)

Microbiologist

Eileen Moran is a microbiologist in the Applied Genetics Group where she works as part of a rapid response team to develop reference materials for pathogens of public health concern with the goal of creating non-hazardous materials that can aid in diagnostic assay development and validation. Currently, she is using digital PCR to further characterize RGTM 10263, H5N1 (avian influenza) synthetic RNA fragments as part of its conversion to a reference material. Her work on this project will also identify sources of variation in digital PCR measurements, including reverse transcription methods and digital PCR instrumentation.

Eileen’s research background is in virus-host interactions. She completed her PhD in microbiology and immunology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago. Following graduate school, she completed a 2-year post-doctoral fellowship at CDC which provided immersive training in public health research, quality management, and biosafety.
