Da Bin Kim (IntlAssoc)

Chemist

Da Bin joined the Biomaterials Group at NIST in 2024. Her research focuses on the characterization and detection of micro- and nano-plastics (MNPs) using a quantum cascade laser (QCL) infrared (IR) microscope. She also investigates orientational changes during the shape memory process in shape memory polymers (SMPs) by applying polarization-controlled QCL-IR microscopy, with the goal of supporting the development of SMPs with enhanced mechanical properties and broader applications. Prior to joining NIST, Da Bin studied ultrafast photo-initiated processes in natural and model light-harvesting systems—including singlet fission systems—using two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy(2DES) and transient absorption spectroscopy(TA).
