RDCO provides governance, strategic planning, and expertise partnering across NIST ADLP laboratories to facilitate adoption of standards and best practice for data science and computing in alignment with mission priorities. Enabling discovery and access to NISTs’ high-quality metrology research output in the form of digital assets is a strategic priority. In cooperation with external partners and organizations worldwide, RDCO seeks to strengthen NIST's leadership and impact through digital assets and technology including use of FAIR data and software,
RDCO Provides:
- Advocacy in the use of standards and best practices for data science as it applies to metrology, development of AI, and digital technology
- Management and direction for NIST directives to support public access to research, including oversight for the production and operation of the NIST Public Data Repository for preservation, discovery and access to research digital products
- Support for cross-laboratory research computing and high-performance computing (RC-HPC), including overseeing partnership with the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) supercomputing resource
- Development, oversight, and engagement for NIST data governance
- Support for communities of practice related to NIST research data and computing including HPC, AI, and professional training.
- Expertise for operation of full life cycle research data management (RDM)
- A roadmap for sustainable research data infrastructure (RDI) including tools, services, and shared resources for data storage, compute, and network connectivity
- Support for strategic initiatives including the CHIPS Metrology Exchange to Innovate in Semiconductors (METIS), development of the Circular Economy Resource Registry, laboratory programs such as Additive Manufacturing Benchmarks, Bioeconomy, and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
- Collaboration and partnering with organizations in the public, academic and private sectors, including NMIs and standards organizations, to advance NIST’s digital leadership
