Superconducting Vortex-Based Microwave Circulator

Published Patent Application Number: 2022/0094029 A1

Invention

This invention consists of a design model of a microwave circulator reliant on the motion of a single persistent-current vortex in a small superconducting circuit of Josephson junctions to induce nonreciprocal behavior. The model indicates the capability of enabling a small-scale, moderate-bandwidth, and low-insertion loss circulator at very low magnetic fields and at microwave frequencies relevant for experiments with qubits.
