Evolution of Dendrimer Conformational Structure with Generation Number

Abstract
We simulate the conformational structure of a coarse-grained model of dendrimer molecules in good solvent as a function of generation number G and find that they evolve through a substantially more complex structures than regular star polymer with increasing arms because of their hierarchical topological structure. As G increases, they progress from 3-arm stars to clusters that geometrically resemble lattice animals, and percolation clusters. Finally, they form nearly spherical porous spherical structures before spontaneously segregating into discrete ball-like structures at G=9, reflecting the branching complexity of the first dendrimer generation.Proceedings Title
