Solubility of Water in 1-Octanol from 2 °C to 96 °C

Abstract

The solubility of water in 1-octanol was measured from 2 °C to 96 °C by coulometric Karl Fischer titration. The mass fraction solubility at 25 ° was found to be (48.91 ± 0.13) mg/g. Experiments also indicated the existence of a pseudo-equilibrium state when there was a significant difference in the temperature of the liquid and the headspace gas. In addition, the density of water saturated octanol (wso) was measured from 15 °C to 45 °C. The density at 25 °C was determined to be (831.7 ± 1.7) kg/m3 with a change in density of -0.6 kg/(m3 K).
