Juan F. Fung received a PhD in economics, as well as an MS in statistics, from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Juan is an applied economist who brings social science methods (including program evaluation, measurement frameworks, and human-subjects research design) to AI research challenges. In the ITL AI Research, Measurement, and Standards Division, Juan's current work focuses on measuring AI adoption and productivity, AI program evaluation, and developing measurement approaches for frontier AI capabilities. Previously in the Engineering Laboratory, Juan led research on the economics of disaster resilience, including predictive models for seismic retrofit costs and benefit-cost analysis for functional recovery design.
