Kevin Huncik (Fed)

Instrument Specialist / Research Chemist

Kevin’s research program centers on assessing anthropogenic pollution in coastal and marine environments, with a focus on sediment and biological tissue matrices. He possesses extensive technical expertise in characterizing persistent organic pollutants (POPs), specializing in the detection and quantification of PCBs, PAHs, legacy organochlorine pesticides, and brominated flame retardants via gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS). Previously, he managed mass spectrometry core facility operations to advance natural products chemistry and environmental toxin characterization programs, where he developed advanced analytical methods and performed complex structural identification of novel organic compounds using integrated GC, LC, MS, and NMR platforms.

Kevin serves as the Senior Instrument Specialist, specializing in rapid on-site troubleshooting and repair to minimize downtime for technical personnel. Additionally, he leads facility safety initiatives in his capacity as the laboratory’s designated Safety Representative for NIST, Hollings Marine Laboratory, Charleston, SC.
