2016 Bronze Medal Award

AWARD CITATION

Dr. Udovic is recognized for the discovery of unparalleled superionic conduction in solid electrolyte materials suitable for rechargeable battery applications.  He developed an entirely new class of sodium-based compounds that at high temperatures display ionic conductivities greater than those of any other known solid polycrystalline sodium-conducting materials.  He further succeeded in reducing the temperatures at which the enhanced ionic conductivity occurs to technologically relevant temperatures, thereby making these materials prime candidates for commercially viable solid-state rechargeable batteries.
