2018 Gold Medal Award

Rigosi, Panna, Payagala, Jarrett, Elmquist, Jones

Rigosi, Panna, Payagala, Jarrett, Elmquist, Jones

AWARD CITATION

Awarded for achievements in science and engineering. The group is recognized for creating a primary resistance standard that can be deployed directly to U.S. industry and the world metrology community, ending the world's reliance on quantum resistors that are no longer available in the U.S. and that were too complicated for general use. The core of the new standard is a revolutionary quantum resistor, developed and manufactured by NIST, that eliminates the complexity and expense of the existing standard, delivering the same quantum accuracy at one-tenth the cost, in a convenient instrument rather than a heroic science experiment.
