Join us for an introduction to NIST and evening visit to one of our laboratories highlighted below. During the registration process, you will need to specify which lab you intend to visit. Given the limited capacity available each day, attendance will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
NIST maintains a world class large-scale fire laboratory to conduct experiments that provide the scientific basis for the development of fire safety standards and building codes, support fire investigations and validate advanced computational fire models used by engineers for building design. Ongoing collaborative research on large fire measurement, wildland-urban interface fires and material flammability will be highlighted.
In NIST’s Robotics Test Facility, researchers develop test methods to evaluate the performance of emergency response robots, including ground robots, aerial drones and aquatic vehicles. This work helps first responders determine whether the robots they buy have the capabilities appropriate for emergency situations such as search-and-rescue missions, bomb disposal, and firefighting.
Throughout the year, NIST will host lectures, tours, and special programs on our campus and partner with local organizations across the region. We encourage you to stay connected as we celebrate 125 years of service to the American public by visiting the dedicated NIST 125th anniversary webpage.
