Sodium manganese oxides: Spin Dynamics and Battery Technology

The NaxTMO2 materials, where TM is a 3d transition metal, are composed of alternating Na and TM layers and exhibit quite a variety of very interesting properties which has resulted in them being extensively investigated.  The TM ions occupy an approximately triangular layer providing magnetic frustration and novel spin dynamics.  One aspect concerns the Co version of these compounds as the parent materials of the water- intercalated superconductor.  The Mn versions are very interesting both for the intriguing spin dynamics and for their potential potential application in rechargeable batteries, as the Na content can be readily varied.  Following are publications for the Mn in both areas of interest.
