Registration Is Now Open for the NIST Workshop on Priority Data and Information Needs

Register now for the Improving Community Resilience Planning and Decision Making: Workshop on Priority Data and Information Needs taking place October 25-26, 2018.

As more communities take action to improve their overall resilience to natural, technological, and human-caused hazards,  there is a growing recognition that local officials, consultants, and researchers need data and information to inform resilience planning decisions. This goal of this workshop is to identify:

  • the types of data and information and related tools that are used today
  • data/information/tool gaps that urgently need to be filled to support decision-making

Representatives of cities, counties, regional bodies, and states will share their experiences and recommend specific needs. Participants will include Federal agencies, universities, non-profits, and the private sector.  Outcomes of the workshop will be used to develop tools and guidance that facilitate decision-making.

The workshop will be organized around three tracks and include plenary and working breakout sessions:

  • Session 1: How Communities Characterize Themselves, Set Goals, & Make Decisions
  • Session 2: The Gap Between Current and Desired Performance of the Community’s Built Environment
  • Session 3: Community Resilience Priorities and Solutions

Following the workshop, NIST will share these priorities widely with others who can help to develop and provide solutions.
