Carolyn Rowland is a supervisory computer scientist in NIST’s Engineering Laboratory (EL). She serves as IT adviser to the EL and manages a group of research software engineers and IT service people who specialize in working with researchers to solve problems relating to research data, technologies, tools and platforms, and cybersecurity. She is also the lead cybersecurity officer for the EL. Rowland has spent her career at NIST starting from a technical role as a Unix system administrator to someone who works to address research IT service delivery issues across the institution. Rowland earned her bachelor’s degree from Michigan Technological University.
