Abstract
Controlled wear testing should be used to develop understanding of wear mechanisms and the influence of various parameters on materials behavior. Simulator testing should be used to test different designs after the material behavior has been assessed. Used properly, wear testing also can serve as a screening tool to eliminate grossly unsuitble materials.
