Abstract

Smokeview is a software tool designed to visualize numerical predictions generated by the NIST Fire Dynamics Simulator(FDS), a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model of fire-driven fluid flow. These two tools are typically used in concert to respectively simulate and visualize fire induced smoke flow. Smokeview visualizes FDS modeling results by animating tracer particle flow, 2D or 3D shaded contours of data such as temperature and flow vectors showing flow direction and speed. Smokeview also viualizes static data at particular times again using 2D or 3D contours of data such as temperature and flow vectors showing flow direction and speed. Examples of each visualization type are given. Windows PC versions of Smokeview and FDS and their documentation may be obtained from the web site: http://fire.nist.gov/smokeview . Versions for other computer platforms such as Redhat Linux 6.x/7.x, Silicon Graphics and some other UNIX systems are also available and may be obtained by contacting the authors at glenn.forney [at] nist.gov (glenn[dot]forney[at]nist[dot]gov) or kevin.mcgrattan [at] nist.gov (kevin[dot]mcgrattan[at]nist[dot]gov).
