Abstract

Any reproduction of a visual artwork creates a representation that fails to capture some properties of the original. Since most art is not sufficiently portable to make it available to all possible viewers, we accept the necessity of making reproductions with the consequent loss in properties, some of which may be vital to the proper appreciation of the artwork.
