Abstract

The measurement of laminar flame speed is an essential factor in determining the reactivity, exothermicity, and diffusivity of a combustible mixture. In this study, the Schlieren method and Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) were utilized simultaneously to measure the flame propagation of methane-air mixtures that burn at different speeds. For a fast-burning flame, the results show good agreement in the extracted laminar flame speed. The slow-burning flame was investigated in terms of the locally varying curvature caused by the buoyant deformation of the flame front.
