Abstract

This report summarizes the state of the art of simulation research and development in Japan. This summary is divided into three parts. In part one, we provide a translation of a paper that was published in Journal of the Operations Research Society of Japan, by Shigeki Umeda and Susumu Morito. In part two, we provide a copy of a paper by Shigeki Umeda which is contained in the proceedings of the recently held conference on New Directions in Simulation for Manufacturing and Communications. These authors have graciously agreed to allow the NISTIR papers to be included in this report. In part three, we provide comments from five U.S. researchers who attended the conference on New Directions in Simulation for Manufacturing and Communications.
