Abstract
This paper presents an active antenna designed to modulate the scattering of an interrogating wave in the 860-960 MHz UHF RFID band. The device can be characterized with straightforward S- parameter measurements, and can then be used for characterization of both passive and semi-passive RFID tags. A model for the back-scattering with modulated signals in an arbitrary linear environment is presented. RFID reader testing and interference studies can also be performed with this scatter modulator.
