Abstract

Evolving applications for public safety communications sometimes rely on speech analytic technologies. These include hands-free voice interface and situational awareness systems, for example. Underlying these types of applications are speech analytic technologies such as speech activity detection (SAD), automatic speech recognition (ASR) and keyword search (KWS). NIST has developed an evaluation infrastructure to measure the performance of these technologies in the context of public safety communications through formal evaluations using first-responder relevant data. This presentation describes the evaluation process and the metrics used in the evaluation.
